Memory lane

A quintessential Thursday afternoon in UST.

Although my college life hadn't been the best years of my existence, walking along the brick walkways of the university invariably leads to a wistful spill of what-might-have-beens and what-ifs. Ahhh, nostalgia.

It often escapes me that there are still a pocketful of peachy memories to recall inside that university. The school, notwithstanding the incidents that bred my innate hatred for some people, would always hold a special place in my heart.

Speaking of a special place in my heart, after months of being busy. I finally found time to sit down and go through a couple of books and movies that I've long been wanting to strike off my list.
Shopaholic Takes Manhattan
I must admit the first book truly was entertaining that it made me want to collect the entire series. However after some time, after two books at that; it gets kinda repetitive. I mean, of course the main character can't get her hands off her credit card when shopping; that's why it's called the Shopaholic series. But the element of surprise was somewhat thrown at the backseat, and the humor that added life to the series started to tone down in this second book. I'm not quite sure if I just set the bar higher or was I just growing tired of reading chiclits. That I am yet to find out.

If I hadn't been listening to an audiobook and was reading the actual book, I might have just set it aside to dig in for other stories that could manage to hold my attention longer. There's an obvious dissatisfaction somewhere after removing my headphones.

And so to determine if my taste for books have indeed changed, I chose to start with the second latest book of my fave author Steve Berry, The Charlemagne Pursuit. I've leafed through the first chapter and there, Cotton Malone, Berry's all-time bibliophile protagonist really got me going from one chapter to another. Now that's what I call print action!

Also since today's my only and last free day after being jobless for a week, (tomorrow I'm gonna start processing my pre-employment requirements for my new job, which i'm very very excited about! :D ) I tried catching It's Complicated on DVD. I remember Pao bugging me months ago into watching this with him, but I was just too busy then to give in to his petty request.

Starring Mamma Mia's Meryl Streep and The Cat in the Hat's Alec Baldwin sure as hell made used-to-be couples reconsider their decision. The film embodied how as humans we tend to commit the same mistakes over and learn from it the hard way.

A true representation of how most couples who have gone through divorce/separation still have secret hopes  that sometime in the future, their partner, or both of them would come to their senses, rekindle their love, and resolve the differences that once threw them apart; and eventually get back to each other.

A movie composed of real human situations and emotions of how someone from our past, no matter how we feel balanced through the years, still often manage to rock our boats.
