Hitching that niche

5/29/10
A visit at statement's office that is two years in the making. haha

Its just last week that I had the chance to swing by Statement's office in the far far province of Pasay. lol Not because I wanted to have a chitchat with editor-in-chief Paoperbut because he needed a hand to do blurbs. In short, 'twas purely a "professional visit," the usual presswork night. At least we wanted to think of it that way.haha But of course, before the actual "work" began we had to do our usual bonding.  shared and compared how shitty our respective works and bosses are. By now you may have grasped that I whine a lot, hence the blog title. :D

Anyway, their office is located in a nearly slum area of Pasay. A place where you've to loop dark streets and pass by dangerously looking men lurking in the darks. In spite of feeling the perils of the idea of doing this visit on a friday night, the emotion subsided as soon as we reached their office; which surprisingly has an office-like feel. Not spacious, but large enough to house their own bathroom, which I tried pointing out to him as something better than our office the entire night.

As opposed to our office, which has a very corporate-like building but sewerage-like in the inside, with all those roaches strolling around like our officemates. Yes its gross, I know. I've dealt with it.

Here are a few shots of the office which Pao warned me not to post.ha!

On a side note, lemme share to you a brief realization how blessed I am that finally all those "tiny" efforts I made are recognized.

You're now reading the blog of Statement magazine's 22-year-old editor-at-large. :D

This of course I owe to my dear friend Paoper, who've always believed in skills I, myself never knew I have.

MY CORNER
The moment I finished college marked the beginning of my relentless search for my niche.

I always thought that every person is cut to do something. Something he could brag to be his zone, specialization or whatever words they call it. I had to know mine. I had to take the quest in finding that area where I am best at.

Took me three years, a couple of post-graduation jobs, several incomparably mean bosses to realize that I am a magazine girl. Others may hate doing presswork, meeting people, interviewing them, learning new cool stuff every now and then, field works and writing but those were my things. And by my things, they are the tasks I passionately do and absolutely enjoy.

Perhaps it's the profuse flexibility offered by the publishing industry that swayed me to thinking this way. Believe it or not it, more than the lavish salary offered by other jobs say, BPOs(nothing against BPO working peeps, but we all know that working in mainstream media means being underpaid and overworked), I'd rather be somewhere I see myself continuously evolving, learning and working to be at pace with other people though underpaid. Personal growth is my biggest motivation.

Though this job more often than not is stressful, sometimes mind-rocking and mostly demanding; let it be known that I love my job, my two magazine jobs for that matter. :)
